About Reeds Bay Beach Park on Hilo & East Island, Hawaii

Reeds Bay Beach Park in Hilo has a couple small sandy beaches that are good for keikis (kids) and are popular with local families. This linear park and its beaches face east so it doesn’t get much sun in the mornings, but it’s a pleasant place later in the day.

Reeds Bay is protected from waves by the Hilo Harbor Breakwater so swimming and water activities like stand-up paddleboarding are ideal. Little lava rock islands and points are all around so bring water shoes if you want to explore them. The beaches here are a mix of coral, sand and lava rocks, but at least this park has beaches which are rare on the Hilo side of the Big Island.

Naniloa Golf Course is a nine hole public course located behind the park. Liliuokalani Gardens Park is also nearby and highly recommended.

To get to Reeds Bay Beach Park drive or walk east on Kamehameha Avenue and then turn left onto Banyon Drive which leads directly to the park. Parking can be found along Banyon Drive and in a large parking lot near the restrooms.

Hilo Reeds Bay Hotel and The Grand Naniloa DoubleTree Hotel are just a bit farther down Banyon Drive and near this park.
