About Kuhio Kalanianaole Park on Hilo & East Island, Hawaii

Kuhio Kalaniana’ole Park is a small beach park on the shores of Reeds Bay in Hilo. It’s typically not that busy during the day and can be a place for quiet contemplation next to the water.

This park doesn’t have a sandy beach, but it has access to the calm waters inside Hilo Harbor. Sailboats are anchored in the bay, enhancing the view from the shore.

Directly across a tiny cove is Reeds Bay Beach Park which has a small sandy beach which is rare in these parts. That east-facing beach isn’t much better for sunbathing than the lawns at Kuhio Kalanianaole Park, but it makes getting into the water much easier. For that reason, Reeds Bay Park is popular with families.

If you are in the area for lunch or dinner consider going to Ponds Hilo Restaurant which is located on Kalanianaole Street between Kuhio Kalanianaole Park and Reeds Bay Beach Park. It’s not cheap, but you won’t regret eating at this highly rated surf & turf restaurant. Less expensive food carts and stands are often set up near the park entrance with Vietnamese food and shave ice.
