Waikoloa Beach Resort is an extraordinary destination even if you are not staying on the property. It is open to the public, with no entrance gates to stop at, and has shopping, golf, restaurants, walking paths, and beaches of course. The main focus of the resort is the Hilton Waikoloa Village where the grounds are well landscaped and decorated with unique marble statues that include Buddha, animals, and mythological figures. The Hilton wraps around Waiulua Bay which lacks a sandy beach, but has a coral and rock shoreline with sunset views. The man-made sandy beaches on the lagoon behind Waiulua Bay are owned by the Hilton and can be used if you purchase a day-pass. Another option for a sandy beach is at popular 'Anaeho'omalu Beach which is called A-Bay for obvious reasons. At A-Bay Beach you can swim, snorkel, sunbathe and walk paths around an adjacent fishpond. In the early evening you can get a meal and a drink at Lava Lava Beach Club, a restaurant near the beach. If you want solitude you can walk south along the shore from A-Bay to a narrow strand called Kapalaoa Beach. On your way to the beach in Waikoloa Beach Resort stop at the Kings Shops and Queens Marketplace for goodies to make your stay more enjoyable.
